Growing of Yam Seedlings in bags is a new method of planting yams In Nigeria, this integrated farming techniques enables the farmers to cultivate and produce large quantity of yam seedlings
Items required
- Yam Seedlings
- Bags
- Animal dung
- Bamboo trees
- Ropes
Procedure
- Clearing of Grasses from soil
- Spreading of the animal dung to air it
- Mix the loamy soil with the animal dung
- Tilling small holes in the ground where you will place the bags
- Place the bags in the holes that you dug and fill the bag with soil till it gets a little bit higher than half the bag.
- Then add the Yam to the bag and make sure that it faces the raising sun (east)
- Cover it with a little soil so that it can germinate quickly.

Advantages
- It enables farmers to grow large amount of yam in a small portion of land as it doesn’t take up too area of land.
- The rain does not wash away the fertilizer away from the soil since it’s in a bag.
- The returns are always in high yield.
- It requires less or no weeding.
- Reduces the chances of the plant and pest disease.
Disadvantages
- Bad maintenance leads to poor production.
- Too much water can lead to algae and disease to grow alongside the Yams making the yams not healthy.
- It can’t send root deep into the soil which makes it lack natural nutrient.
